A typical lesson
A typical lesson might consist of learning how to count in Lëtzebuergesch, combining numerals with nouns, and learning how to do simple calculations. A shopping theme would lend itself perfectly to this subject. As a role play exercise, the students have to pretend they are buying the ingredients to cook a dinner party where they are serving bean soup, trout cooked in Riesling and a cheese cake.
Refreshment break
A short television news item about the population of the Grand Duchy reaching nearly half a million inhabitants is being shown and explained using a transcript. To end the lesson, the students split into groups and play a dice game called Yahtzee, which involves adding up face values and bonus combinations of five dice per throw.
Course material supplied to each student:
- Numerals in Lëtzebuergesch
- Basic vocabulary related to shopping
- Recipes for Bouneschlupp, Forell am Riesling gekacht and Kéistaart
- DVD recording and transcript of television news item about recent population increase
